Fastnet Fish: Supporting the Fish Heroes Programme to Inspire the Next Generation
At Fastnet Fish, we are passionate about the future of seafood and the next generation’s relationship with it. That’s why we are proud to continue our involvement with the Fish Heroes Programme, a fantastic initiative that introduces students to seafood, cooking skills, and the wider seafood industry.
Bringing Seafood into Schools
The Fish Heroes Programme, run by the Food Teachers Centre, provides schools with the opportunity to incorporate seafood into their lessons in a meaningful way. As part of our commitment, Fastnet Fish is donating boxes of premium Hake to schools that take part. The process is simple:
1.Schools interested in joining the programme reach out to Fish Heroes via the Food Teachers Centre.
2.The school partners with a local fish & chip shop.
3.Fish Heroes provides us with the details, and we arrange for the delivery of Hake to the chip shop.
4. The school collects the fish, ready for use in food technology lessons.
All of this is provided free of charge, ensuring accessibility for all schools that want to educate their students on the benefits of seafood.

Teaching Valuable Skills
For many students, this programme provides their first hands-on experience with fresh seafood. Cooking with fish can often feel unfamiliar, but through this initiative, students learn:
✔️ The importance of seafood as a high-quality protein source
✔️ How to safely prepare and cook different types of fish
✔️ Essential culinary skills that can inspire a love for cooking
By engaging young people in seafood preparation, we are helping to cultivate a new generation that appreciates and understands the value of this incredible natural resource.
Why This Matters
Despite the UK’s rich seafood heritage, many young people have limited exposure to cooking and eating fish. By supporting the Fish Heroes Programme, we are not only helping schools introduce students to seafood but also encouraging conversations about sustainability, nutrition, and careers within the seafood industry.
Our commitment to this initiative reflects our broader mission: to promote responsible seafood sourcing, sustainability, and education. We believe that by empowering students with knowledge and practical skills, we can help shape the future of the industry and ensure seafood remains a vital part of our food culture.
Get Involved
If you’re a school or teacher interested in bringing seafood into your lessons, reach out to the Food Teachers Centre to learn more about the Fish Heroes Programme. We are excited to continue supporting this initiative and look forward to seeing more students discover the benefits of cooking with seafood!
Stay tuned for updates as we continue to champion seafood education across the UK.
