Fastnet Fish: Recognised for Cold Chain Excellence
At Fastnet Fish, we are incredibly proud to have been named as a finalist in the prestigious Cold Chain Federation Awards 2025, recognising our efforts throughout 2024. Being shortlisted in two key categories – Sustainable Cold Storage Operator of the Year and the Business Climate Initiative – highlights the significant strides we’ve taken to enhance sustainability within our operations.
The awards took place in March and provided an insightful day filled with inspirational talks on sustainability in the industry. It was an opportunity to learn about the important steps businesses across the sector are taking to reduce their environmental impact and drive innovation.
A Milestone for Fastnet Fish
The nomination was driven by our extensive investment in upgrading our existing cold storage facility. Our cold store has been part of our business since the beginning, but for years, it operated inefficiently. Recognising the need for a more sustainable solution, we took decisive action to modernise our facility. With the support of grant funding from DEFRA and a total investment of £2.6 million, we undertook a transformative upgrade that has significantly improved our operations.
Our cold store now boasts cutting-edge energy-efficient refrigeration systems, reducing power consumption and minimising environmental impact. We have doubled our pallet storage capacity, enhancing our ability to manage stock efficiently while lowering our carbon footprint. The installation of state-of-the-art insulation and automation has also ensured optimal temperature control, further contributing to energy savings. These advancements not only align with our sustainability goals but also reinforce our commitment to providing the highest quality seafood with minimal waste and maximum efficiency.

Commitment to Sustainability
Our cold store upgrade was built with sustainability in mind. From energy-efficient refrigeration systems to reducing food waste through improved stock management, we’ve taken proactive steps to minimise our environmental footprint. This aligns with our broader mission to source and supply the finest seafood while being responsible stewards of the environment.
Recognition Among Industry Leaders
The Cold Chain Federation Awards celebrate the best in sustainable innovation across the sector, and being shortlisted alongside major industry players reinforces the impact of our efforts. The recognition underscores the importance of independent businesses like ours in shaping the future of cold storage and sustainability.

Looking Ahead
Sustainability remains a key focus for Fastnet Fish moving forward. While our cold store is now operating at peak efficiency, we are committed to improving our efforts across the board. Sustainability is at the forefront of every decision we make, shaping the way we evolve as a business. Whether it’s sourcing responsibly, reducing waste, or optimising logistics, we will continue to drive meaningful change in our industry.
We extend our gratitude to the Cold Chain Federation for this recognition and to our team for their hard work in making this possible. Here’s to a future of continued innovation and sustainable success!
