Celebrating Fish Heroes
Last Friday, we were proud to attend the Fish Heroes Awards Day at the historic Fishmongers’ Company in London, hosted in partnership with the Food Teachers Centre. This special event marked six successful years of the Fish Heroes programme, which brings seafood education and hands-on cooking experiences to schools across the country.

The day was both a celebration and a working session where suppliers, distributors, educators, and organisers gathered to share progress, highlight successes, and explore how we can expand the programme to reach even more schools. The shared goal? To inspire our next generation to enjoy cooking and eating healthy, delicious and sustainable seafood dishes.
We were especially proud to see Claire White, part of the Fastnet Fish team, recognised for her outstanding contribution to the programme. Claire has been instrumental in creating a strong partnership between Fastnet and the Fish Heroes initiative, launching the innovative “Fish from the Chippy” campaign. Through this initiative, Claire helped connect schools with local fish and chip shops to deliver high-quality frozen hake straight into classrooms.
Thanks to her efforts — and with Fastnet’s donation of both the fish and logistics — thousands of portions of hake have reached schools across the UK. This has enabled pupils to experience real, hands-on fish preparation and cooking, while also building valuable connections between schools and their local communities.

The afternoon’s talks and discussions reinforced just how vital fish education is not just for nutrition and sustainability, but also for sparking interest in seafood careers and developing practical life skills. It’s clear the Fish Heroes programme is making a real impact.
We’re excited to keep playing our part in this fantastic initiative. Lauren Flett has now taken the reigns on behalf of Fastnet, and we are committed to supporting even more schools in the months ahead.
